Russia and North Korea have agreed to build a 1,100 kilometers gas pipeline from Russia to South Korea via North Korea. The agreement has been announced amid Kim Jong Il's official visit to Russia this week. The North Korean leader has met with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev at a military base near the city of Ulan-Ude, which is just north of Mongolia. The project will be able to transmit up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas a year. Meanwhile, the two leaders have also agreed that they want to see the stalled six-party talks resume as soon as possible. A Russian presidential spokesperson said North Korea is ready to resume the talks without preconditions. The six-party talks, which also involves China, Japan, South Korea and the US, collapsed in 2008 after the North Korea walked out.
