Russia: Hundreds arrested at Moscow rally

In Russia, police have detained more than 1,000 people at a rally in Moscow. They were protesting against the exclusion of Opposition candidates from local polls.<br />'' <br />'' The Opposition say they were barred for political reasons. Officials disqualified about 30 people, saying they had failed to collect enough valid signatures to stand. <br />'' <br />'' Moscow's Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, has called the demonstration a security threat and promised to maintain public order. Last Saturday, more than 20,000 Russians took to the streets, demanding fair elections, and dozens were arrested.<br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> In a tweet, Mr Kovind said Reddy was a thinking person's politician and an outstanding Parliamentarian. The President offered his condolences to the bereaved family and many associates. <br />'' <br />'' Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed sadness at the demise of former Union Minister Jaipal Reddy. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">In a tweet, Mr Modi said Reddy had years of experience in public life and was respected as an articulate speaker and effective administrator. The Prime Minister said his thoughts are with the family and well-wishers of Jaipal Reddy in this hour of grief.<br />''  <br />'' Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan and Union Minister of State for Home, G Kishan Reddy were among those who paid their last respects to Congress leader S. Jaipal Reddy who passed away today.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"><br />'' Mr Naidu visited Jaipal Reddy's residence in Hyderabad and paid floral respects at his mortal remains. He recalled his association with Jaipal Reddy in the then Andhra Pradesh Assembly and said he used to timely respond over national and international issues with his linguistic excellence and intellectual vision. <br />'' <br />'' The Vice President said he lost a good friend. He further said that making efforts in setting up standards while remaining in the political arena will be a fitting tribute to Jaipal Reddy.<br />'' <br />'' Recalling the services that Jaipal Reddy rendered during his long political stint, MoS Home Kishan Reddy said he always fought for the cause of public and the country lost a great Parliamentarian. He said Jaipal Reddy made unparalleled services to the development of the nation.<br />'' <br />'' Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has condoled the death of former Union Minister and veteran party leader Jaipal Reddy. In his message, Mr Gandhi said Reddy was an outstanding Parliamentarian and a great son of Telangana. He added that Jaipal Reddy dedicated his entire life towards public service. <br />'' <br />'' Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao and his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Y S Jaganmohan Reddy expressed their deep condolences and recalled the services made by Jaipal Reddy as a Union Minister and as a public representative. </span><br />''  <br />
