Rural India, increased expenditure in infrastructure focus area: Jaitley

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that rural India and infrastructure are two priority areas for the NDA Government at the Centre. Addressing a function organised by Asia Society in New York, he said these two areas will be the focus areas in the future and direction for the economy.<br/><br/>Mr. Jaitley said, India has to move forward for development in the direction of increased expenditure in infrastructure and rural India.<br/><br/>Stressing the need for lot of structural changes in the economy, Mr. Jaitley said, after 1991, the current phase is significantly important in the history of reforms. He said a lot of laws have to be changed to ease the process of doing business and bring in greater transparency into the system.<br/><br/>Mr. Jaitley said the government has changed arbitration laws, and amended some onerous provisions of the Companies Act. He said the bankruptcy law is likely to be approved in the next few weeks and a law that deals with commercial indebtedness is in the final stages of passing.
