In the forex market, the rupee today weakened 30 paise against the US dollar. The domestic unit closed at 74 rupees and 56 paise against the US currency. 

The dollar index, which indicates the US dollar's strength against a basket of six other leading currencies rose 0.2 percent to trade at 96.4 in intra-day trade.
