The rupee today weakened 26 paise against the US dollar to trade beyond the 76 rupees per dollar mark. The domestic currency settled at 76 rupees and 17 paise per dollar.

The dollar index, which indicates the US dollar's strength against a basket of six other leading currencies, rose 0.61 percent to trade at 98.38 in intra-day trade.
