In the forex market, the rupee today weakened 10 paise against the US dollar. The domestic currency closed at 79 rupees and 56 paise against the American Unit. 

The dollar index, which indicates the US dollar's strength against a basket of six other leading currencies, rose 0.46 per cent to trade at 109.20 in intra-day trade.
