The rupee appreciated by 12 paise to 55 rupees 30 paise against the American currency in late morning trade today.In early trade, the local currency resumed higher at 55 rupees 10 paise per dollar as against the last weekend's level of 55 rupees 42 paise.However, the rupee failed to maintain early gains and was trading 55 rupees 30 paise in late morning deals.
