The Indian rupee appreciated by 27 paise to 45.20 a dollar in the afternoon trade today. It had closed at 45.47 rupees against the greenback in the previous session. Dealers said dollar weakness against other Asian currencies and a higher opening on the stock exchanges kept the rupee sentiment firm.
