The rupee trimmed its initial gains, but was still quoted higher by 14 paise, to 54 rupees against the dollar in the late morning trade today, on the back of sustained selling of dollars by banks and exporters, in view of weakness of dollar in overseas market. The local currency had gained 48 paise to close at a one-month high level of 54 rupees 14 paise yesterday.
