The rupee pared initial gains to settle 18 paise lower at 73 rupees and 79 paise against the US dollar.

In intra-day trade, Brent crude prices were trading around 41 dollars and 90 cents per barrel while WTI crude prices were around 40 dollars and 20 cents per barrel.
