Rupee failed to maintain initial gains today, although it was still up by 8 paise against the US dollar to 52 rupees 79 paise. The Indian currency had gained 22 paise to 52 rupees 65 paise against the US dollar in early trade, extending gains at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market on selling of the American currency by exporters and banks.
