In the forex market, the rupee today appreciated 33 paise against the US dollar. The domestic unit closed at 74 rupees and 66 paise against the US currency.

The dollar index, which indicates the US dollar's strength against a basket of six other leading currencies fell 0.08 percent to trade at 96.02 in intra-day trade.
