The Indian rupee held steady at 44.44 rupees against the US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today. It closed at 44.45 rupees a dollar in the previous session on Wednesday. Forex dealers said banks and corporate preferred to maintain their holdings of the American currency at current levels in view of uncertainty over the dollar in the overseas market
