The rupee hit a near 10-month peak of 59 rupees 51 paise against the dollar yesterday, its strongest since July 29, 2013, on the back of suspected heavy dollar buying by the RBI ahead of exit polls. The domestic currency, however, weakened by 1 paisa to close at 60 rupees 05 paise.Initial gains in the rupee tracked a rally in the stock markets to record highs on wide-spread hopes that those projections would show the BJP and its allies winning a majority in the elections, given the coalition is seen by markets as being more investor-friendly.
