The rupee strengthened 8 paise to 44.78 rupees per dollar in opening trade on the Inter-bank Foreign Exchange today. The rupee rose on dollar weakness against the euro and other Asian currencies and a higher opening of the stock market. The rupee had depreciated by 14 paise, to close at a nearly two-week low of 44.86 against the dollar, in Monday's trade.
