The Indian rupee appreciated by 5 paise to 44.69 rupees per dollar on Thursday. It had closed at 44.74 against the dollar in the previous session on Wednesday. Forex dealers said the rupee strengthened against the dollar due to higher opening in the domestic stock market and dollar weakness against other Asian currencies.
