Extending gains for the fifth straight session, the rupee appreciated 16 paise to 63 rupees 68 paise against the dollar in early trade today, amid weakening US currency overseas. The domestic currency had settled at 63 rupees 84 paise against the dollar yesterday, and was up 140 paise over the previous day's close.
