The rupee depreciated by 12 paise to 55 rupees against the US dollar in the late morning trade, on sustained dollar demand from banks and importers, amid weakness in local equities. The rupee had lost 13 paise to close at a two-month low of 54 rupees 88 paise against the US dollar in the previous session.
