The Indian rupee depreciated by 17 paise to 52 rupees 88 paise against the US dollar in early trade today. The fall was due to fresh month-end dollar demand from importers despite weakness of the American currency in overseas markets. In the previous session on Monday, the domestic currency had notched up a gain of 25 paise to close at Rs 52 rupees 71 paise against the dollar.
