The Indian rupee depreciated by 16 paise to 44.52 a dollar in early trade today on fund outflows and the greenback's gains overseas. The rupee closed higher by 15 paise at its two-week high of 44.36 a dollar in the previous session. Forex dealers said capital outflows and dollar strength against other Asian currencies weighed on the rupee sentiment.
