The rupee lost a hefty 36 paise to 54 rupees 56 paise against the US dollar in early trade today, on strengthening of the American currency against the euro overseas. In the previous session yesterday, the local currency had appreciated 23 paise to close at 54 rupees 20 paise against the dollar.
