The rupee lost 14 paise to 54 rupees 12 paise against the dollar in early trade today, largely due to month-end demand for the American currency from oil importers. In the previous session, the domestic currency had gained 10 paise to end at 53 rupees 98 paise against the dollar on heavy US dollar sales.
