The Indian rupee lost 12 paise to Rs 49.19 per US dollar in early trade. The rupee had gained 38 paise to close at Rs 49.08 against the US currency in Tuesday's trade on dollar-selling by banks and exporters amid a sharp rise in the domestic equity market.
