Rupee depreciates by 61 paise to a record low

The Indian rupee depreciated by 61 paise to a record low of 54 rupees 32 paise against the US dollar in early trade today. The Indian rupee breached the 54 dollar-mark for the first time in history on sustained demand for the American currency from banks and importers amid a stronger dollar in overseas market and persistent foreign capital outflows.The domestic currency had tumbled by 48 paise to close at 53 rupee 71 paise per dollar in the previous session.
