The Indian rupee depreciated by 2 paise to 44.51 rupees per US dollar in opening trade. The rupee had closed at 44.49 rupees against the US dollar in the previous session. Forex dealers said fresh demand for the American currency from banks and importers and weak equity markets mainly put pressure on the rupee.
