Rupee depreciates 41 paise against dollar

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, the rupee fell for the second straight session, depreciating 41 paise, to close at 63.98 to the dollar. The rupee fell on dollar demand from banks and importers, falling equity markets, and a strong dollar overseas. During the session, the rupee had slumped to as low as 64 to the dollar. At the stock markets, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange declined 112 points, to close at 27,531. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange fell 31 points, to 8,339. Gold eased 25 rupees, to 27,450 rupees per ten grams in Delhi. Silver fell 200 rupees, to 38,850 rupees per kilo. And Brent crude oil futures dropped towards 65 dollars a barrel, while U.S. crude lost 43 cents, to 59.29 dollars a barrel.
