The rupee depreciated by 30 paise to 53 rupees 40 paise against the dollar in early trade today. The fall was due to a sustained demand of the US currency from importers on the back of firm dollar in overseas markets.The domestic currency had shed 3 paise to close at 53 rupees 10 paise against the US dollar in the previous session. In 2011, the rupee crashed by 18.79 per cent.
