The rupee appreciated 22 paise, to 46.65 against the dollar. Gold surged 290 rupees, to 16,990 rupees per ten grams in Delhi, on festive demand. And crude oil futures rose 21 cents, to 76.88 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
