At the forex market, the rupee on Thursday appreciated three paise to close at 81 rupees and 80 paise against the US currency.

The dollar index, which indicates the US currency's strength against a basket of six other leading currencies, fell by 0.04 per cent to trade at 101.31 in intra-day trade.
