In the forex market, the rupee today appreciated 12 paise against the US dollar. The domestic unit closed at 79 rupees and 18 paise against the American currency.

The dollar index, which indicates the US dollar's strength against a basket of six other leading currencies, fell 0.12 percent but it was still two-decade high of 106.97 in intra-day trade.
