In Sri Lanka, ruling party is headed towards a landslide victory in the first local elections since the end of the country's 25-year civil war two years ago. Officials said today that President Mahinda Rajapaksa's ruling United People's Freedom Alliance has won more than 180 of the 235 local councils. The United National Party won at least eight councils in Thursday's election. Final results are expected later today.
