In Tamil Nadu, the ruling DMK trounced the opposition in the by-elections to Tiruchendur and Vandavasi assembly constituencies which went to polls on the 19th of this month. In Tiruchendur constituency, DMK candidate Anitha Radhakrishnan defeated his nearest rival from the AIADMK by a margin of 46,800 votes while in Vandavasi constituency, Mr Kamalakannan won by a margin of over 38,000 votes. The opposition Aiadmk finished a distant second.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that the ruling DMK and its ally the Congress has won in all the 10 constituencies where by-elections has been held since 2006, when the DMK swept to power.<br/>
