Ruling combine defends Govt in Lok Sabha, says number of steps taken to control inflation

The members of the ruling combine strongly defended the Government in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday saying a number of steps have been taken to control inflation. The opposition on the other hand strongly criticized the UPA for what they called its faulty food management policy.Initiating the debate in the House Senior BJP Leader and former Finance Minister Mr Yashwant Sinha alleged that corruption is the biggest cause of inflation in the country. He said the key to check price rise is containing food inflation and plugging the leakages. The former finance minister said the government had huge stocks of food grain but it is not being given to the poor. He alleged that the food grain is rotting in warehouses. Mr. Sinha urged the government to bring 25 million tonnes of its stock of food grain to the market which will help bring down food prices. He said once food prices come down, it will also have an impact on prices of other commodities.Participating in the discussion the Law Minister, Mr. Salman Khurshid while hailing the government for the steps taken to check inflation, said it is not only a problem of India but in the entire world. Even the United States is now struggling to repay its mounting burden of debt.In his argument in the debate JDU Chief Sharad Yadav urged the government to focus more on inclusive growth than GDP. He alleged that the Central Schemes are not benefiting the marginalized. Mr Shailender Kumar of Samajwadi Party while criticizing the Government called for strengthening the agricultural infrastructure. He also emphasised on the need to work for achieving the objective of inclusive growth. Dara Singh Chauhan of BSP alleged that the Central schemes for the poor are not properly focused. He called for preparing a comprehensive policy for agricultural growth. The discussion was continuing when reports last came in.
