RSS clarifies recent remarks by its Chief Mohan Bhagwat over reservations

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, RSS has clarified that its Chief Mohan Bhagwat did not speak about reservations being given to weaker sections of society at present. <br/><br/>In a statement on Monday, RSS said, Mr Bhagwat had said that everybody should strive that all weaker sections of society get the benefit of reservation as was the aspiration of makers of Constitution. <br/><br/>The statement said, the interview, given by Mr Bhagwat to RSS mouthpiece Organiser, was not on the subject of reservation, but about integral humanism and should be seen in this context. <br/><br/>In his interview to Organiser, the RSS Chief had suggested setting up of a committee with representatives from civil society to examine who needs the facility and for how long. <br/><br/>Reacting to Mr Bhagwat's interview, BJP has said that it does not favour reconsideration of reservation policy. <br/><br/>Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Union Minister and BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said, the BJP respects reservation policy as is it essential for the upliftment of STs, SCs and OBCs. <br/><br/>He, however said there should be a debate how to extend the benefit of the reservation to those poor and backwards who have been left out.<br/><br/>NDA ally RLSP, a Bihar-based party, said reservation in India is a settled issue as mandated in the Constitution.<br/>Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that Mr Bhagwat's call is a manifestation of anti-poor mindset espoused by RSS and now by BJP.<br/><br/>RJD chief Lalu Prasad dared the Modi government to scrap the quota.<br/><br/>JD(U) General Secretary KC Tyagi said his party totally rejects and condemns the proposal of RSS Chief regarding appointment of a committee.
