RS resumes discussion on motion of thanks

The Rajya Sabha today resumed discussion on the motion of thanks to the President's address to the joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament. Participating in the discussion, CPM leader Sitaram Yechury charged the government with failure in collecting the money from the defaulting telecom companies. He said there is a huge loss to the exchequer in the 2G scam, and that money could have been used for implementing the Food security act and right to education act in a better way. Mr. Rajiv Shukla of the Congress suggested that the proposed JPC on 2G scam should probe the allocation of spectrum since 1998. He also called for a probe into the disinvestment policies initiated by the then NDA government. The discussion began yesterday. While the ruling party members hailed the government's steps in dealing with the crucial issues of corruption and black money, the opposition charged that the government is not sincere in addressing this issue and bring culprits to the book.
