The Rajya Sabha has resumed discussion on the Marriage Laws (Amendment) Bill 2010. Welcoming the Bill, Mr Shantaram Naik of the Congress favoured that women respondents in the divorce case, should have the right to get the share in the property. The Children of the parents, who will be granted decree of divorce, should also have the right to the properties. Mr Brijesh Pathak of the BSP opposed the Bill and demanded that it should be sent to the Select Committee of Parliament.
The amendment Bill aims at mitigating the financial hardship of the wife if she happens to be respondent in respect of a petition for grant of decree of divorce on the ground of irretrievable breakdown of marriage.
