The Rajya Sabha today asserted that the people of North East have a right to live in any part of the country and appealed them not to be misled by rumours. A resolution to this effect was adopted by the members after a 90-minute discussion on the rumors of attacks on people of North East people in various parts of the country. It said all sections of the House and all political parties are of the firm opinion that as citizens of the country, the people of North East have a right to live in any part of India.

The Resolution, read out by the Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari, expressed serious concern at the feeling of persecution of the brothers and sisters of the North Eastern states, who are leaving various cities and returning home. Stating that their presence in various parts of the country promotes national unity, the resolution said full security should be provided to them in all parts of the country.

It also said the mischief mongers and anti-national elements behind the electronic campaign to create panic should be urgently investigated by the authorities.
