RS passes Legal Metrology Bill 2008

The Rajya Sabha today passed the Legal Metrology Bill 2008. It seeks to establish and enforce standards of weights and measures, regulate trade and commerce in weights and measures and other goods which are sold or distributed by weight, measure or number. Winding up the debate on the Bill in the House, the Consumer Affairs Minister Mr. K V Thomas assured members that the proposed law will simplify the existing legislation avoiding duplication and contradictions of the two earlier acts. Earlier participating in the debate, members from BJP and CPI urged the government to circulate rules among state governments to know their actions.<br/><br/>
