Members cutting across party lines in Rajya Sabha today demanded passage of Women's Reservation Bill by Lok Sabha to make the legislation a law. Minority Affairs Minister Dr. Najma Heptullah, making a submission on International Women's Day expressed the hope that the Bill, which has been passed by Rajya Sabha, would see the light of the day during the current year itself. Several women members of the House also appealed to the government to show its commitment to women's empowerment by adopting this Bill.

Rajya Sabha had passed the Bill in 2010, which was first introduced in Parliament in 1996 to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures.
