RS faces repeated adjournments on Telangana issue

The Rajya Sabha today witnessed repeated adjournments on Telangana issue immediately after Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde moved the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill 2014 for consideration and passing amidst nosy scenes. TMC and TDP members rushed towards Shinde as soon as he piloted the Bill. Congress members came to his rescue.

However Shinde could not read out his speech pertaining to the Bill due to commotion and opposition to it. Later, he laid his speech on the table. Amidst noisy scenes, Deputy Chairman Prof P J Kurien said some members including Leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley gave notices for holding a discussion on the Bill. He said Jaitley will raise a constitutional point of the Bill. Members belonging to AIADMK, Shiv Sena, Trinamool Congress repeatedly trooped into the well raising slogans against the bill. Amidst noisy scenes, Deputy Chairman tried to convince the House for holding discussion saying floor leaders of parties have agreed on this during their meetings with him earlier.

Later, Prof. Kurien asked senior BJP leader M Venkiah Naidu to initiate discussion. Amidst din, Mr Naidu described the Telangana Bill as a historic legislation and called for a healthy discussion. The discussion is continuing till reports last came in.
