RS faces repeated adjournments after uproar over MSP of paddy, cotton

The Rajya Sabha today witnessed three adjournments till 1 PM in the pre-lunch session following uproarious scenes over Minimum Support Price of Paddy and Cotton and the demand for re-allotment of bungalow to Samajwadi Party MP Neeraj Sekhar. The bungalow allotment issue was raised by Jaya Bachchan of the Samajwadi Party.

She said Mr Sekhar was evicted from the house as he lost the Lok Sabha elections. Mrs Bachchan demanded that the bungalow, which was once occupied by his father and former Prime Minister Chandrasekhar be re-allotted to him. Responding to the demand, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi assured that the matter will be addressed at an appropriate time.

Not satisfied with the response, they were raising slogans forcing Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari to adjourn the House till 1 PM. The issue of Minimum Support Price of Paddy and Cotton was raised by BSP Chief Mayawati, Sharad Yadav of JD-U, Naresh Agarwal of Samajwadi Party and Sharad Pawar of NCP. Earlier, the House was adjourned first for five minutes and 15 minutes till noon.
