RS faces adjournment over Lalit Modi, Vyapam issues

The Rajya Sabha has resumed business after being adjourned till noon today following uproar by the opposition Congress members over Lalit Modi controversy even as Deputy Chairman Prof. P.J.Kurien said he is willing to allow them to move a motion to suspend the Business and take up the discussion.

However, the opposition members have not come forward to move the motion sticking to their demand for the Prime Minister's presence in the House. Sharad Yadav of the JD (U) wondered why industrialists are demanding Parliament to function. He said the entire nation is watching how the captains of industries are controlling the Government. Responding to this, Leader of the House Arun Jaitley countered Mr Yadav saying that the general public is also aware how the functioning of Parliament is being obstructed. At this juncture, the Congress members trooped into the well of the House raising slogans against the Government and industrialists. Taking strong objection to the manner in which the agitating members are stalling the proceedings, Prof Kurien adjourned the House for about forty minutes till noon.
