The Rajya Sabha today adopted the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Bill 2010. The purpose of the Bill is to include children with disabilities in the definition of child belonging to disadvantaged group with a view to ensure that their specific needs are given precedence in the elementary education system. Replying to clarifications sought by members, the Human Resource Development Minister, Kapil Sibal said, the idea is to make education inclusive. The Minister said, the government is also planning to start vocational education for children from 9th standard onwards. In this context, the Minister underlined the need for recruitment of more teachers by states.
