The Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2 PM, 20 minutes ahead of the lunch hour as AIADMK members staged a dharna in the well of the House. Dr V Maitreyan and two of his party colleagues strongly protested against the remarks by Mrs Kani Mozhi of the DMK, during Zero Hour. In her submission, she alleged that the Tamil Nadu government has stalled a road project under construction in Madurai for which the Prime Minister had laid foundation stone in 2008. To this, the AIADMK members took strong exception and pleaded with the Vice Chairman Prof. P J Kurien not to allow the DMK MP to speak on the subject. Prof. Kurien said that the DMK member was allowed to make the submission by the Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari. Immediately after that, the three members sat in the well forcing its adjournment till 2 PM.
