The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day. As the House met after the first adjournment, Samajwadi members trooped into the well opposing reservation in promotion for SCs and STs. SP members continued shouting slogans in the Well. Amidst noisy scenes, Leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley wanted to know whether the government and its supporting parties have decided not to allow the functioning of the House. He also demanded the leader of the House should respond. In the din, Deputy chairman P J Kurien adjourned the House for the day.

Earlier, the House witnessed an hour-long adjournment till noon as Bahujan Samaj Party members, led by party supremo, Mayawati, demand and insisted the suspension of question hour.
