Procedural wrangle for holding a discussion on violence in Gaza paralysed the proceedings in the Rajya Sabha with the house adjourning for the day today. The house witnessed repeated adjournments since morning. While opposition wanted an immediate discussion after Chairman Hamid Ansari gave his ruling in favour of discussing the matter.

The government insisted to take up discussion on railway budget, as listed for today and the fresh date for discussion on Gaza violence needed to be decided by the Business Advisory Committee at 4 PM today. The post-lunch session witnessed noisy scenes and members from treasury and opposition benches were quoting rules and procedures in support of their stands amidst heated arguments. Following uproar, Deputy Chairman Prof. P J Kurien adjourned the house finally for the day.
