The Rajya Sabha could not transact any legislative business for the second day today as the procedural wrangle for holding a discussion on Gaza violence stalled the proceedings.

The opposition wanted an immediate discussion after Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari gave his ruling in favour of discussing the matter.

The government insisted to take up discussion on railway budget as a fresh date for discussion on Gaza violence is scheduled to be decided at the Business Advisory Committee this evening.

Opposition and treasury bench members were locked in heated arguments and the house witnessed repeated adjournments since morning.

The post-lunch session also witnessed noisy scenes and members from both the sides quoted rules and procedures in support of their stands. Amidst din, Deputy Chairman Prof. P J Kurien adjourned the house finally for the day.
