The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day today on several issues including Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail and reservations in promotions for SC and ST candidates in government jobs. As soon as the House met for the day, BJP members demanded that the government should clarify its stand on FDI. Following noisy scenes Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari adjourned the House for an hour till noon. Samajwadi Party members stalled the proceedings of the House when it re-assembled. The SP members trooped into the well raising slogans against proposed reservation in promotions for SCs and STs. They were supported by some of the treasury bench members. BSP members, however, continued to raise slogans in favour of reservations. Amidst noisy scenes, Deputy Chairman Prof. P J Kurien adjourned the House for the day after allowing tabling of papers.
AIR Correspondent reports that the Upper House is adjourned for the fifth day today on the FDI and reservation issues.Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 2 p.m. Immediately after the question hour, Trinamool Congress members trooped into the well of the House demanding an increase in the number of subsidized cooking gas cylinders. They also raised slogans. Amidst the din, Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the House.
