RS adjourned abruptly because of lack of quorum

The Rajya Sabha was abruptly adjourned this afternoon for lack of quorum. The House was discussing a private member's bill on reorganization of Andhra Pradesh. <br/><br/>It was moved by Dr K V P Ramachandra Rao of the Congress. Replying to a brief discussion, Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parthibhai Choudhary enumerated the steps taken by the Centre to help Andhra Pradesh after it came into being nearly two years ago. <br/><br/>He emphasized that the Centre has never lagged behind in fulfilling its financial commitments to Andhra Pradesh in setting up of the requisite infrastructure like its capital at Amaravati, Legislature, Secretariat and High Court. <br/><br/>The Minister assured the agitating members that the Centre will fulfill all its promises given to the people of Andhra Pradesh and requested the mover to withdraw the bill. <br/><br/>But as soon as Dr Ramachandra Rao stood up, C M Ramesh of the Telugu Desam Party pointed to the lack of quorum. Later, Presiding Officer V P Singh Badnore adjourned the House till Monday.
