The Centre today said that old notes of 500 and 1000 rupees will be accepted for making payments towards fees, charges, taxes and penalties payable to the Central and State Governments including Municipal and Local Bodies till tomorrow midnight. Finance Ministry in a statement said, such old notes will also be accepted for making payment of utility charges for water and electricity till the specified period.<br/><br/>While demonetising the high-value currency notes on Tuesday, the government permitted people to use such notes for payment of certain services like rail and metro ticket, rail catering, airline ticket, buying LPG cylinder and medicines with doctor's prescription. Yesterday, the government also suspended fee collection on all booths at National Highways till the midnight of 11th of November.
